MTSFB Awards IPDG Cycle 1/2026 Grant to Uni-Technologies Sdn Bhd for UAS–IMT Coexistence Study

Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) has awarded the Industry Promotion and Development Grant (IPDG) Cycle 1/2026 to Uni-Technologies Sdn Bhd for the project titled “Study of Coexistence Between Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) and International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) Networks in Malaysia.” The Agreement Sign-Off Ceremony and Project Kick-Off Meeting were successfully held on 5 May 2026, marking the official commencement of the project.

The project aims to support the safe and effective integration of UAS operations over IMT networks while safeguarding the quality of service (QoS) experienced by terrestrial mobile users. Through comprehensive simulations and real-world field measurements, the study will assess radio behaviour, interference characteristics, and operational considerations involving UAS operations across urban, suburban, and rural environments in Malaysia.

The findings from the project are expected to contribute towards the development of locally validated technical evidence, operational guidelines, and protection criteria for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLoS) UAS operations over IMT networks.nThe initiative also supports Malaysia’s aspirations to strengthen the low-altitude economy and foster innovation within the communications and multimedia industry ecosystem.

The project will be carried out collaboratively with industry stakeholders, including mobile network operators (MNOs), drone service providers, and technical experts, to ensure practical and comprehensive industry engagement throughout the study period.

MTSFB congratulates Uni-Technologies Sdn Bhd on the successful award and looks forward to the outcomes of this important industry initiative.
