Incorporating AI with RICE and Advanced TVET

Now in its fourth year, the Elsevier–MTUN Symposium continues to be a prestigious platform for advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Malaysia.

This year’s theme, Incorporating AI with Research, Innovation, Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship (RICE) and Advanced TVET, explores how artificial intelligence (AI) strengthens the RICE ecosystem, enhances inclusivity, and empowers ASEAN to thrive as both consumers and creators of technology.

During her opening remarks, YBhg. Datuk Prof. Dr. Azlinda Azman, Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), highlighted four years of impactful collaboration between Elsevier and the Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN), comprising UTeM, UTHM, UniMAP and UMPSA, all of which are esteemed members of MTSFB. She emphasised AI’s role in shaping a resilient and future-ready education landscape.

During the forum, Elsevier shared how AI is used to streamline publications, while MTUN universities encourage students to use AI ethically for learning and research. Discussions also addressed industry readiness and the investments needed to bridge AI skill gaps.

MTSFB’s CEO, Puan Normarinee Mohd Nor, was honoured to speak during plenary session “Forging the Future: AI Standardisation in Malaysia through Academia–Industry Collaboration”, underscoring the importance of AI standards in supporting Malaysia’s advancement in emerging technologies.

Together, we move towards a future where AI, education, and standardisation converge to empower innovation across ASEAN.
