The Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) successfully organised the Workshop on Technical Codes Development under the IMT and Future Network Working Group on 10 February 2026 at Courtyard by Marriott, Setia Alam.
The workshop focused on the refinement of Draft Technical Code MTSFB2415R0 – IMT-2020 (Fifth Generation): System and Specification for Non-Public Networks (NPN). This draft technical code aims to establish a comprehensive framework to guide the implementation and governance of 5G-based Non-Public Networks in Malaysia, supporting industry digitalisation and enterprise connectivity needs.
The workshop was designed with the following objectives:
- To expedite the development of the Draft Technical Code.
- To gather input from related stakeholders, ensuring inclusive and balanced perspectives.
- To ensure that all technical and regulatory requirements are mutually agreed upon prior to finalisation.
- Through collaborative engagement, the session aimed to strengthen the draft and align it with industry best practices and national requirements.
The session commenced with a comprehensive briefing on the draft technical code delivered by the Draft Lead, Mr Yeoh Chun Yeow, who outlined the scope, key provisions, technical considerations, and areas requiring focused deliberation. The workshop then adopted an interactive approach where participants were divided into small groups to deliberate on specific technical clauses and requirements. Each group subsequently presented their findings to identify gaps, clarify technical aspects, and propose improvements. A challenge session was incorporated to critically review assumptions and strengthen the robustness of the draft. The document was further refined based on the collective feedback received, ensuring that the technical code reflects practical, implementable, and industry-aligned standards.
The refined draft will be positioned for Public Comment approval, subject to the Reference Panel Meeting (date to be confirmed), marking a significant milestone in the development of standards for IMT-2020 (5G) Non-Public Networks in Malaysia. MTSFB extends its sincere appreciation to all participants, industry representatives, technical experts, and stakeholders for their valuable contributions, active engagement, and constructive feedback throughout the workshop. The collective expertise and commitment demonstrated during the session are instrumental in ensuring the robustness, relevance, and industry readiness of the Technical Code. MTSFB looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing Malaysia’s telecommunications standards and supporting the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
