Strengthening Trust in IoT Through Safety, Security and Privacy Standards

The Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) Security, Trust & Privacy Working Group (STP WG) successfully conducted its Technical Code Development Workshop on 19–20 May 2026 at The Everly Hotel, Putrajaya, marking another milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s IoT standardisation ecosystem.

The two-day workshop focused on the first revision of MTSFB2511R0: Internet of Things – Security Management, originally published as MTSFB TC G050:2018. The revision expands the scope of the Technical Code beyond security management by incorporating safety and privacy requirements, providing a more comprehensive framework for Safety, Security and Privacy Management for the Internet of Things (IoT).

Bringing together experts from industry, academia and regulatory bodies, the workshop served as a collaborative platform to review and refine the draft Technical Code to ensure it remains relevant in addressing the rapidly evolving IoT landscape, emerging cyber threats and increasing privacy and safety considerations.

The revised Technical Code aims to provide practical guidance for organisations in designing, deploying and managing IoT systems that are not only secure, but also safe, privacy-conscious and resilient. By adopting a comprehensive approach to safety, security and privacy management, the Technical Code will support greater trust in IoT technologies while encouraging their responsible deployment across various industry sectors.

MTSFB extends its sincere appreciation to all members of the Security, Trust & Privacy Working Group for their valuable expertise, active participation and dedication throughout the workshop. Their collective efforts continue to strengthen Malaysia’s communications and multimedia standards ecosystem while supporting the development of secure, trusted and future-ready digital technologies.

As the national industry forum responsible for developing Technical Codes under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, MTSFB remains committed to fostering collaboration among industry, government and academia to develop standards that promote interoperability, innovation, cybersecurity, safety and sustainable digital transformation.
