In line with its ongoing commitment to developing robust and future-ready technical codes, the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) successfully held a three-day, two-night Workshop on Standards Development for the Broadcast Network Facilities (BNF) Sub-Working Group. The event took place from 2 to 4 July 2025 at the Swiss-Garden Hotel, Melaka.
The workshop focused on reviewing and refining the second revision of the Technical Code (TC) on Broadcast Network Facilities. This TC serves as a vital reference for installers, Joint Management Bodies (JMBs), contractors, and any other parties involved in the installation and maintenance of broadcast network facilities within buildings. It applies to a range of building types, including residential, commercial, industrial, and government premises, and encompasses both Single Dwelling Units (SDUs) and Multi Dwelling Units (MDUs).
The session began with:
- Opening remarks by Dr Ahmad Zaki Mohd Salleh, Chair of the Broadcast Technology Working Group, who emphasised the importance of resilient, standardised broadcast infrastructure. He also highlighted the significance of updating the TC to ensure comprehensive end-to-end coverage.
- A detailed briefing by En Mohd Azmi Mohd Zahit, the appointed Draft Lead from MYTV, who presented the draft TC and outlined the key areas requiring stakeholder input during the workshop.
Â
The primary objective was to accelerate the development of the TC through collaborative engagement and consensus-building. Participants were encouraged to actively contribute insights drawn from their respective roles in the broadcasting ecosystem, particularly in regulation, operations, and implementation.
To support this, attendees were divided into smaller breakout groups for targeted discussions on specific sections of the draft. Each group shared their findings and recommendations to identify any inconsistencies or gaps. Dedicated challenge sessions were also held to scrutinise and validate proposed revisions. All feedback was consolidated into a working draft, which was progressively refined throughout the workshop.
Consensus was achieved on the revised requirements, resulting in a substantially improved draft that reflects the shared agreement of all participants. With this progress, the document is now nearly ready for the next phase—the Public Comment exercise—marking a significant step forward in strengthening Malaysia’s broadcast network standards.
This workshop represents another key milestone in MTSFB’s ongoing efforts to enhance national broadcasting standards. With the support of industry stakeholders, academia, and regulators, the revised Technical Code is set to improve the resilience, quality, and sustainability of the country’s broadcasting infrastructure.
