- 24th -26th June 2025
In line with ongoing efforts to strengthen national standards in emerging technologies, the Security, Trust and Privacy Working Group (STP WG) successfully conducted a Standards Development Workshop from 24 to 26 June 2025. The workshop focused on refining the draft Technical Code (TC) titled “Internet of Things – Functional Safety Requirements.”
Collaborative Effort Towards Functional Safety in IoT
The 3-day workshop brought together key industry experts, academia, and regulators for intensive technical discussions aimed at ensuring the robustness, clarity, and applicability of the draft TC. A detailed briefing was delivered by the Draft Lead, Prof. Dr. Shahrulniza Musa from Universiti Kuala Lumpur, outlining the key requirements, scope, and expected outcomes of the TC.
To further enrich the development process, breakout sessions were held to allow participants to examine and provide feedback on specific sections of the draft. These focused discussions were instrumental in identifying gaps, aligning perspectives, and incorporating practical recommendations from various stakeholders.
Knowledge Sharing from Industry Leaders
The workshop also featured insightful sharing sessions from two distinguished speakers:
- En. Sharul A Rashid from Digital Energy Asia Sdn Bhd, presented on the “Convergence of Process Safety and Cybersecurity Towards Asset Protection of Critical Infrastructures,” highlighting the importance of integrated safety and security strategies in today’s digital industrial environments.
- Ts. Wan Mohd Idil Bin Abdul Rahman from SIRIM QAS provided a comprehensive overview of Product Certification and Validation/Verification, emphasising the relevance of conformity assessment in supporting functional safety standards.
What’s Next?
As part of the next phase in the development of this TC, a Public Comment Session will be launched to gather feedback from a broader group of stakeholders. This step ensures transparency, inclusivity, and alignment with national and international best practices.
