Security, Trust and Privacy Working Group Holds First Meeting of 2026

The Security, Trust and Privacy (STP) Working Group held its first meeting of 2026 on 26 February at MTSFB in a hybrid format. The session brought together representatives from industry, academia and related organisations to discuss ongoing initiatives and future priorities in strengthening cybersecurity, digital trust and privacy within Malaysia’s communications and multimedia ecosystem. The meeting was chaired by Interim Vice Chair, Prof. Dr. Shahrulniza Musa, who welcomed participants and emphasised the importance of collaboration in shaping effective technical standards.

During the meeting, the Secretariat highlighted the STP Working Group’s key achievements in 2025. Among the notable milestones were the development and registration of several technical codes addressing digital identity security management, cybersecurity maturity and privacy requirements for Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The group also organised awareness programmes and workshops to enhance industry understanding of security-related standards. These efforts contributed to the STP Working Group receiving the Best Working Group Award at the MTSFB Annual Dinner.

Members also reviewed the working group’s technical priorities for 2026 and the coming years. Planned initiatives include updates to IoT security management guidelines and the development of new frameworks addressing emerging areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) cybersecurity and satellite communications security. These initiatives aim to strengthen Malaysia’s cybersecurity preparedness while ensuring that national standards remain aligned with evolving technological developments.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of international collaboration and research initiatives related to cybersecurity innovation. Members discussed approaches to improve coordination within the working group, including refining focus areas and encouraging experts to lead discussions in specific security domains.

The session concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen industry participation and technical contributions in the development of security, trust and privacy standards. The next STP Working Group meeting is scheduled for 30 April 2026, where members will continue discussions on advancing cybersecurity standards for the communications and multimedia sector.
