On 14th August 2024, the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB), through its Numbering and Addressing Electronic (NEA) Working Group, conducted a public engagement on the draft Technical Code (TC) for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) – Deployment Specifications for Segment Routing Over IPv6 (SRv6).
The session was led by the TC Draft Lead Prof Emeritus Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass, the TC Draft Lead. The engagement provided an opportunity for industry stakeholders, network administrators, and security professionals to review and provide input on the draft TC MTSFB2403R0.
The draft TC MTSFB2403R0 outlines the necessary deployment requirements for SRv6 in Malaysia. It provides guidance on the technology, use cases, security considerations, and deployment standards for SRv6, aiming to achieve enhanced traffic management, network segmentation, and security.
The key objectives of the technical code include:
- Establishing a framework for SRv6 deployment and operation in Malaysia.
- Promoting seamless interoperability and compatibility across different network components.
- Enhancing safety and security guidelines for network facilities implementing SRv6.
Participants engaged in discussions with MTSFB representatives, addressing concerns and recommendations for improving the TC. The engagement fostered collaboration between industry experts and policymakers, ensuring that the final version aligns with best practices and industry needs.
The session highlighted the importance of standards development and stakeholder involvement in driving IPv6 adoption in Malaysia. MTSFB continues to encourage industry collaboration to ensure a smooth and secure transition to next-generation networking technologies.
