Public Engagement for Draft TC: IoT – Privacy Requirements

On 4 March 2025, the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) under Security, Trust and Privacy (STP) Working Group hosted a Public Engagement Session to discuss the draft Technical Code (TC) Internet of Things (IoT) – Privacy Requirements (MTSFB2402R0). Held online via Zoom, the session provided an opportunity for stakeholders to engage in discussions about privacy and data protection in the evolving IoT landscape.

The engagement session commenced with welcoming remarks from Chair of STP WG, Mr. Thaib Mustafa, followed by a briefing on the draft TC by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shahrafidz Khalid, the TC Draft Lead. His presentation outlined the principles and objectives of the TC, emphasising the need for privacy-by-design approaches in IoT development.

Objectives of the TC:

  • To integrate privacy protections into IoT device and system development from the outset.
  • To promote encryption, anonymisation, and data minimisation to safeguard sensitive information.
  • To advocate for clear privacy policies, user consent, and accountability in IoT data practices.

Following the technical briefing, participants engaged in a Q&A session, raising important considerations regarding the implementation and enforcement of privacy measures. The session highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts among regulators, industry players, and technology developers to ensure compliance with privacy standards.

MTSFB continues to welcome public comments on the draft TC. Stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback via the official MTSFB website at Technical Code – MTSFB.

This engagement session marks another step forward in shaping a secure and privacy-conscious IoT ecosystem in Malaysia.
