PE: Short Range Devices and Communications Equipment

On 22 April 2025, the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) held a virtual Public Engagement Session to present and gather feedback on two draft Technical Codes (TCs). The session began with welcoming remarks by Puan Wan Zarina Wan Abdullah, Chair of the Communications Terminal Working Group, who emphasised the importance of collaboration in ensuring that national standards are inclusive, practical, and future-ready.

The first TC presented was MTSFB2409R3: Short Range Devices – Specifications (Third Revision). This was delivered by Ts. West Pang Chee Wai, Vice Chair of the Communications Terminal Working Group and Draft Lead for the TC. The revision seeks to update the current specifications in line with the latest Class Assignment and the New Communications Equipment Framework (NCEF) introduced by MCMC. It includes updates to frequency bands, spurious emission limits for emerging technologies, and removes elements such as safety and EMC, which will now be addressed in a separate TC.

The second presentation introduced MTSFB2411R0: Communications Equipment – Baseline Requirements, led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Khaizuran Abdullah, Secretary of the Communications Terminal Working Group and TC Draft Lead. This new TC sets out common baseline requirements for communication equipment, especially for devices that do not fall under existing TCs. It outlines safety and technical specifications, including power supply, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electrical safety, and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).

The session concluded with a Q&A panel where participants engaged with the presenters to clarify points and offer suggestions. MTSFB welcomes all stakeholders to contribute their feedback during the public comment period, open until 7 May 2025. The draft TC documents and submission portal are available at Technical Code – MTSFB.
