New Code Finalised, Future Plans Set by IoT WG

On 10 April 2025, the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Sustainable Cities Working Group convened to finalise and review several key initiatives aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s IoT standardisation landscape.

Finalisation of Technical Code Proposal on IoT Device Authentication
The New Proposal (NP) for the Technical Code on Internet of Things – Device Authentication was finalised and unanimously agreed upon by Working Group members. The proposal, which outlines minimum security requirements to ensure trusted device access within IoT ecosystems, will now be submitted to the Reference Panel for formal approval.

Review of Two-Year Technical Code Development Plan
Members reviewed the proposed two-year planning framework for Technical Code development. The plan aims to align upcoming initiatives with emerging technologies and national digital priorities, ensuring proactive and future-ready standardisation efforts.

Discussion on Contribution to ITU-T SG20
The Working Group also explored the possibility of contributing to ITU-T Study Group 20 (SG20), which focuses on IoT and smart sustainable cities. This initiative reflects MTSFB’s commitment to aligning national standards with international developments and enhancing Malaysia’s presence on the global standardisation stage.
