The Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB), in collaboration with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), successfully conducted the second session of its Industry Talk series, welcoming over 50 final-year students.
This engagement formed part of their BENG1040: Fibre Optic Technology Competency Certification Preparatory Course, a vital programme designed to equip students with industry-relevant knowledge and skills that strengthen their readiness for professional certification.
Expert Insights from Industry Leaders
The session was led by Ts. Sufian Sulaiman, a recognised expert from MTSFB’s Fixed Network Facilities Working Group (FNF WG). His talk, titled “Planning and Engineering Civil Works for Optical Communication Network”, provided practical perspectives on how optical communication networks are planned and implemented on the ground.
By sharing real-world insights, ranging from design considerations to equipment deployment, Ts. Sufian bridged the gap between academic learning and industry application, offering students a valuable understanding of professional practices in the telecommunications sector.
Standards at the Core of Knowledge Sharing
The talk also emphasised the importance of Technical Codes (TCs) in ensuring quality, safety, and standardisation across the industry. The session referred to several key MCMC–MTSFB Technical Codes:
- MCMC MTSFB TC G024:2024 – Fixed Network Facilities: In-building and External (First Revision)
- MCMC MTSFB TC G025-1:2020 – Basic Civil Works: Part 1 – General Requirements
- MCMC MTSFB TC G025-2:2020 – Basic Civil Works: Part 2 – Open Trench
- MCMC MTSFB TC G025-3:2020 – Basic Civil Works: Part 3 – Micro Trench
- MCMC MTSFB TC G025-4:2020 – Basic Civil Works: Part 4 – Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
These standards play a crucial role in guiding the development and deployment of fibre optic infrastructure, ensuring consistency, interoperability, and long-term sustainability.
Commitment to Nurturing Future Talent
Through initiatives like this, MTSFB reaffirms its commitment to developing future talent and supporting Malaysia’s vision of a connected, sustainable digital nation. By fostering collaborations with academia and industry, MTSFB continues to prepare the next generation of engineers and technologists for the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow.
