MTSFB Brings Industry Expertise to UTeM’s Fibre Optic Certification Course

As engineering students at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) commenced Semester 3 of Academic Year 2025/2026, the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) continued its collaboration with UTeM through its fifth Expert Sharing Session, held as part of the university’s Fibre Optic Certification Course. The session was led by Mr. Tan Swee Beng of Redsun Engineering Sdn Bhd, a member of the MTSFB Fixed Network Facilities Working Group (WG), who participated as the invited industry speaker.

The two-hour physical session, attended by 26 students, introduced participants to Technical Codes related to fibre infrastructure, the importance of referring to relevant guidelines in infrastructure deployment, and the significance of fibre as the backbone of mobile network infrastructure. Students also gained practical insights into fixed network infrastructure, including surface reinstatement following open-trench deployment, civil works safety considerations such as air ventilation at infrastructure construction sites, as well as an overview of micro-trenching and microducts. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, providing students with the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and seek further clarification on the topics discussed.

MTSFB continues to strengthen knowledge exchange between industry and academia by creating opportunities for students to engage with experienced professionals through both in-person and virtual platforms. These initiatives help cultivate future-ready talent, deepen understanding of industry best practices, and reinforce the role of technical standards in supporting the continued advancement of Malaysia’s digital communications sector.
