Kickstarting 2025: IoT WG Highlights Key Plans and Progress

On 18 February 2025, the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) through its Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Sustainable Cities Working Group convened its first meeting of the year. The session focused on key initiatives to strengthen IoT ecosystem security and align ongoing efforts with global best practices.

Proposal for New Technical Code on IoT Device Authentication
A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a New Proposal (NP) for the development of a Technical Code on Internet of Things – Device Authentication. This initiative aims to establish minimum security requirements to ensure that only verified and trusted devices are granted access within an IoT environment, reinforcing the integrity and safety of interconnected systems.

Recap of 2024 Activities and Achievements
The meeting also featured a comprehensive update on the IoT Working Group’s activities in 2024. Highlights included:

  1. Active participation in local and international meetings to support alignment with global standards.
  2. Registration and submission of multiple Technical Codes under the IoT domain, marking continuous progress in national standardisation.
  3. Engagement in key industry events and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  4. Significant contribution to the Smart Manufacturing Framework, with involvement in the main event held in Penang—demonstrating strong collaboration across sectors.

The IoT Working Group remains committed to advancing secure, interoperable, and future-ready IoT standards for Malaysia’s digital ecosystem.
