Bridging Industry and Academia: MTSFB Supports Fibre Optic Learning at UTeM

The Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) continued its commitment to strengthening industry–academia collaboration through an online Expert Sharing Session held on 13 June 2026 for Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). The session formed part of the Fibre Optic Certification Course for Semester 1, Academic Year 2025/2026, featuring Ts. Mohd Yusairi Abu Hassan, a member of the MTSFB Fixed Network Facilities (FNF) Working Group, as the invited industry speaker. A total of 20 students participated in the session, gaining valuable insights into practical telecommunications network deployment and operations.

During the session, students were introduced to Telekom Malaysia (TM) and its role in Malaysia’s communications infrastructure. The presentation covered an overview of TM, how its telecommunications networks are planned and deployed, the role of TM’s data centres, and the company’s support in delivering essential services, including emergency communications. The interactive online session enabled students to connect academic knowledge with real-world industry practices, providing a better understanding of the technologies, infrastructure, and operational considerations that underpin the nation’s digital connectivity.

MTSFB remains committed to fostering knowledge sharing between industry and academia by connecting students with experienced professionals through both physical and virtual engagement. Such initiatives support the development of future-ready talent while promoting greater awareness of industry best practices and the importance of technical standards in advancing Malaysia’s digital communications sector.
